A standard exhaust fan swap is straightforward — remove the old housing, connect the new one to the existing wiring and duct, done. Most jobs take under an hour.
Upgrading to a combo fan/light/heater unit (like the ReVent RVLH series) adds a light and a small heat lamp to the same housing. The heater element on most combo units draws minimal amperage — the ReVent RVLH 50, for example, draws only 0.11A at the heater — so no new circuit is typically needed. Same wiring footprint, significantly more functionality.
We also recommend upgrading when your existing fan is more than 10 years old, noisy, or not moving enough air. Modern fans are dramatically quieter (0.3–1.0 sone vs. 3–4 sone on old units) and far more efficient.
A straight fan-for-fan swap typically runs $200–$350 including labor. Upgrading to a combo fan/light/heater is similar if we're using the existing wiring and duct. We do volume pricing for multiple units — if you're replacing 2–3 fans in one visit, the per-unit cost drops. We quote flat-rate before starting.

Yes — bathroom exhaust fans must vent to the exterior, not into the attic. Venting into the attic dumps moisture that causes mold and structural damage. We verify the existing duct is connected and venting properly during every install. If the duct has come disconnected or was never properly installed, we'll let you know and can address it.
The general rule is 1 CFM per square foot of bathroom, with a minimum of 50 CFM. A 50 sq ft bathroom needs 50 CFM; a 100 sq ft bathroom needs 100 CFM. For bathrooms with high ceilings or heavy use, go higher. We recommend the right size unit for your bathroom when we come out to quote.
